The easiest remedy to prevent and treat constipation is to drink carom water on a daily basis.

Take a mixture of half cup of bael fruit juice and equal quantity of boiled water. Add one pinch of hing (asafeotida) and two pinches of black pepper powder. Finally, add half teaspoon of carom seed powder and have this mixture once daily.

Mix quarter teaspoon each of powdered ajwain, cardamom, hing (asafetida) cubeb (shitalchini or kabab chini). Add this mixture in a cup of bitter apple juice (makkal). Add black salt and have half cup in the morning and half cup at night before bed. Avoid drinking it in excess as it may also cause serious adverse effects.

Acidity

Boil cumin and carom seeds in water. Strain the liquid and drink it to relive acidity immediately.

Anorexia

Anorexia is an eating disorder. You can correct this problem at home and all you have to do is to mix equal quantities of ajwain, fennel (saunf), cumin (jeera) seeds,  rock salt(sendha namak) and dried ginger. Grind all these ingredients. Take half teaspoon of this powder (churan) after your meal.

You can also boil one teaspoon of these seeds and some cloves in two cups of water. Strain the liquid and use it as a mouth gargle.

Make a remedy for bad breath and gum disease by frying three tablespoons of supari (acacia nut) powder with three tablespoons of ghee. Add ajwain, kattha (catechu) and rock salt in equal quantities. Apply it on your gums and teeth.

Hoarseness of Voice

Simply make a decoction of ajwain with water. Use the strain liquid for gargling.

Respiratory Problems

Essential oil present in carom seeds is loaded with expectorant, decongestant and inflammation relieving properties. Hence, use of these seeds can help you get rid of wide range of respiratory problems including asthma, bronchitis, emphysema, chest congestion and so forth.

Chest congestion

Take one teaspoon each of bishop’s seeds and turmeric powder. Boil them in a cup of water. Add two teaspoons of honey. Take two teaspoons of the resultant potion thrice a day.

Asthma

Symptoms of asthma like difficult breathing, chest congestion and inflammation can be relieved by a mixture that comprises an equal quantities of turkey berry ( titbaigun or bhurat), ajwain, amla (Indian gooseberry), curry leaves, fenugreek, ginger, mango kernel and pomegranate rind. Fry these ingredients in little ghee.  Grind this mixture in a grinder. Take half teaspoon of this powder with milk once a day.

Another useful remedy for asthma can be prepared by combining half cup juice of the following ingredients

Adhatoda Vasica ( arusa leaves)

Ginger

Mint leaves

Lime juice

Mix all these juices and add one cup carom seeds. Leave the mixture under the sun. Once it dries, make powder out of it. Take ¼ teaspoon of this powder with honey twice daily for four weeks.

Pain in the chest, neck and other symptoms can be relieved by tying some ajwain seeds in a cotton cloth, heating this seeds containing cloth in a pan and applying it on the chest and neck. You can also put a handful of seeds in water. Boil it until steaming hot. Take the steam to quell the symptoms.

Respiratory diseases

Majority of respiratory diseases can be prevented by drinking a combination of ajwain seed powder and a glass of butter milk.

Emphysema

Boil half teaspoon of carom seeds in a cup of water. Strain and add a piece of jaggery. Drink it daily.

Cold and Cough Cure

Bishop’s seeds can also be used to cure the symptoms of cold such as cough, nasal congestion, sore throat and so on.

A good herbal remedy for cold is to make carom seeds tea. Simply boil one teaspoon of these seeds and quarter teaspoon of turmeric powder in a cup of water. Strain, add honey and drink it hot.

When dealing with sore throat, chew a mixture of one clove, a pinch of salt and quarter teaspoon of ajwain.

Cough syrup – Mix ajwain seed powder, licorice powder and dried ginger power in equal proportion. Add same amount of honey. The paste can be consumed to relieve cough, sore throat and nasal allergies.

Some people also have a problem of tonsillitis. To cure this issue, roast quarter teaspoon of carom seeds and a pinch of turmeric. Add it in a cup of warm milk. Drink this milk daily to cure your problem.

For blocked nose or nasal congestion, roast ajwain and inhale the fumes. You can make your own nasal inhaler by heating a few grams of seeds and tying them in your handkerchief. Rub it on your palm and inhale it. It is a good remedy for people those who are dealing with sinusitis.

Chew some seeds and drink lukewarm water to relieve cough. You can make your own homemade cough remedy by mixing equal proportions of carom powder, mulethi (licorice) powder and ginger powder. Add some honey and have it to get rid of cough, sore throat and allergies.

Inhaling the steam of ajwain seed containing water is effective in treating cold, cough and congestion.

Analgesic and anti-inflammatory Properties

For headache and migraine- heat one teaspoon of seeds in a pan and inhale the fumes. Another good home cure of headache and migraine is to apply a paste of ajwain seed powder on forehead.

Lower back pain

Lower back pain is fairly common problem. Heat one tablespoon of mustard oil. Put some ajwain and garlic in it. Heat until it turns black. Use the resultant oil to massage the affected area.

Gout

Gout is known for its pain and discomfort. You can treat gout flare-ups by making your own gout remedy. Simply combine shatavari, black cumin, carom seeds and fenugreek in equal quantity. Take five gram of this mixture with water every morning. People with lower back pain and rheumatism can also take this mixture.

Sciatica symptoms can be cured by a time tested home remedy i.e. boiling two garlic cloves and some carom seeds with two tablespoons of mustard oil and massaging strained oil over the affected part.

Ajwain tea Recipe

You can easily prepare this tea at home. Simply boil a teaspoon of carom seeds in a cup of water. Add other herbs like ginger, fenugreek, cardamom, black pepper, (holy basis) tulsi, and jaggery. One can also use milk while preparing tea.  I use ginger, black pepper, tulsi leaves and honey whenever i have cold, fever and sore throat. Believe me this tea work like a magic cure. Boil until water reduces to half. Now, strain the liquid and serve hot.

Side Effects of Carom Seeds

Though limited intake of these seeds is safe and doesn’t cause any ill effect. However, too much intake may give rise to stomach upset, nausea, vomiting, allergy, headache, skin irritation and many other problems. Avoid too much use of this spice if you are a pregnant or lactating mother. Also, avoid it if you are dealing with hyperacidity and liver disease. Lastly, stay away from it if you have low blood pressure and slow blood clotting problem.
